A Few Simple Steps To Treat Acne At Home

By Andrew Logan

If you do not believe your acne is severe enough to pay a dermatologist relax, because in many cases you can actually treat it at home, yourself. Of the thousands of different ways to treat acne at home, none are one size fits all. Because people are different, what works for me may not always work for you, but one thing that will work is preventative care, which is what we will look at in this article.

Preventative care is the most important thing that you can do in order to solve your acne problem. The truth is that if you understand a few things you can clear up your existing acne and prevent future outbreaks. In this article you will learn what things you can do to prevent acne outbreaks.

The next step that you can take to help prevent acne outbreaks is something that you should already be doing; washing your face. Because washing your face removes excess oil from your skin, this can be a great way to help prevent outbreaks from occurring. You should wash your face two to three times per day. It is also important that you do not use regular soap to wash your face, because it will dry your skin out too much. Instead, you should use a facial cleanser that is especially formulated for acne.

Another step that you can take in order to prevent acne is not a step at all, in fact it is something that you should not do. You should not exfoliate, which means scrubbing your face. You should avoid the use of course wash cloths and sponges as well, because they both will irritate your skin which will make your skin susceptible to further infection.

Another step that you can take if last two didn't help is to use over-the-counter acne treatments to help dry out your skin. I like to use a active ingredient called benzoyl peroxide because it does a great job of drying your skin out, and it has no side effects on most people. It will help to remove the dirt and oil that clog your pores in addition to drying your skin out.

It is also important to watch what you eat; this is because certain foods, most notably those containing high levels of oil, will actually cause your skin to over-produce oil, which can lead to clogged pores and ultimately infection.

Last, and my favorite, is rubbing alcohol. This is a great home treatment for any infection and acne is no exception. Because the root cause of acne is bacterial infection, rubbing alcohol, which is an antiseptic, can kill the bacteria and by extension acne.
