The Truth About Coping With Adult Acne

By Brad Davenport

For a lot of teens, coping with acne is simply a part of everyday life. The psychological effects of this skin condition can be difficult for a young person to deal with. There is a lot of embarrassment, self esteem loss, confidence loss, and it can have a negative impact on many parts of your life.

We should have left this skin condition behind many years ago, but more and more adults seem to be affected. Yes a great many teenagers do suffer with acne, but the causes of acne are becoming of concern to many more adults these days.

It is usually women who are affected by adult acne. Although adult acne is equally troubling compared to teenage acne, it is often treated differently. As female acne in adults becomes more and more common, the correlation between acne and hormones is constantly of interest.

Hormonal changes that affect acne outbreaks in women seem to occur more toward her mid to late twenties. It also seems to be a known fact, that women that are unfortunate enough to start with acne at this stage never shake it off until after the menopause.

However, don't lose heart, there are a number of treatments for adult acne. When you have to deal with acne, your medical adviser or health practitioner can prescribe medication that will relieve the symptoms. There are antibiotics and an array of topical creams that when combined will help with the acne fight.

Should the cause of female acne be definitely hormonal and you are in that category, then your doctor or family clinic, may prescribe the birth control pill. This assumes that you are of course not already taking it. The effect of the pill should be to redress the hormone imbalance and regulate your hormones.

Many women fail to realize that the way you wash your skin has a big effect on how your acne is. If you try to scrub your skin too roughly, it can inflame your skin and cause it to break out even more. A gentle approach is the best approach.

Choose cosmetic products with care. It isn't necessary to stop wearing makeup completely, but you should use products that do not have a lot of oils in them.
