Homemade Facial Scrubs

By Linda Robison

Homemade facial cleansers and homemade beauty products with honey are a good option if your skin is very sensitive to store bought cleansers or if your'e looking to save money. One of the best type of cleansers are ones that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) because they help dissolve the glue that holds dead skin cells together making it easier to exfoliate the skin and allow anti-aging creams and moisturizers to penetrate it.

There are tons of natural food products in your kitchen right now that naturally contain alpha hydroxy acids including sugar, lemons, pineapples, oranges, milk, and vinegar just to name a few. An alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) cleanser is equally great for oil skin as it is dry skin because it helps eliminate excess oils for oily types and allows better deep penetration of moisturizers for dry skin types.

To make a dry skin homemade facial cleanser - mix 1/8 cup of whole milk with 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 table spoon of sugar into a paste. Scrub the whole face and dont forget the neck area, then rinse well.

Apply your best moisturizer. I love my clinically approved, water-proof moisturizer for severely dry skin . Your skin is exfoliated and super clean is able to absorb the moisturizer much better now.

To make an oily skin homemade cleanser - mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda and tomato juice. If you have a lot of red spots and blotches use lemon juice instead. Mix enough juice to form a paste and massage this paste all over skin.

Make sure to rinse very well and apply a moisturizer especially formulated for oily skin. You don't want to over dry the skin. This only causes more oil to be produced and is the biggest mistake those with oily skin make.

For a normal skin homemade cleanser - you can pretty much use any type of AHA and just add some type of abrasive ingredient such as crushed almonds, oatmeal, sugar, or baking soda. Good sources of AHAs include: milk, orange juice, lemon juice, cucumber juice, pineapple juice, vinegar, and yogurt. You can also just use water and sugar, which is my favorite when traveling. This way I dont have to pack a facial cleanser or tons of ingredients.

Mix the two ingredients into a fine paste and massage over the whole face and neck. Make sure you rinse very well with cool water and follow immediately with a good moisturizer. Your skin will feel GREAT!
