Atkins And Appetite Suppression

By Nickie Bevan

One of the most common, and surprising, effects of following the Atkins diet is appetite suppression. Many followers of the plan report that the between meal hunger pangs they used to experience fade away very quickly.

This makes it easier to stay on the diet and continue to lose weight. While other diets have their followers starving between meals, the Atkins diet offers relief from constant hunger. The Atkins diet, with its specific combination of foods and ingredients, has powerful appetite suppressing effects.

Physical exercise is essential for Atkins diet success. Without exercise, your body isn't configured to process carbohydrates successfully. Research has shown that sedentary individuals have extreme insulin reactions to even moderate amounts of carbohydrates. This means that exercise doesn't only help you lose weight, it will help you keep it off too. Exercise will teach your body how to process the carbohydrates in your diet. When you exercise regularly, you'll be able to eat more carbohydrates over time because your body will use them efficiently.

There are two basic types of exercise: aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise. The best regimen combines these two forms each week.

The subjects kept track of what they ate the rest of the day and answered questions about their levels of hunger and satisfaction throughout the day. The results showed that the women who ate the eggs for breakfast felt more satisfied throughout the entire day. They ate less at each meal than the women who were in the bagel group.

If you've been inactive for a while, it may take some time to get used to your new aerobic workouts. You may want to get some advice from your primary care doctor or a professional aerobics instructor. Make sure to start slowly to give yourself time to adjust to your new movements. It's essential that you learn how to stretch and warm up correctly in order to avoid muscle strain.

Broccoli and cauliflower, two of the acceptable vegetables on the Atkins program, also have appetite-suppressing effects. These vegetables are very bulky and they help make your stomach feel full. When your stomach feels full, it will actually create a chemical response in your body. Your body will reduce its appetite because it believes that your stomach is full of high calorie foods. This will happen regardless of what is in your stomach. You can achieve the same results with water and psyllium husk fiber. Both broccoli and cauliflower provide bulk in your diet and are essential vegetables on the Atkins plan.

Some dieters may mistakenly believe that a dark purple result on the testing strips means that they are losing weight faster. Actually, the darkest purple color is a sign of dehydration. It means that your urine is too concentrated and you need to drink water.

As you lose fat, you'll need to replace it with muscle in order to stay lean. Don't be afraid of working out with weights. You won't need to become a bodybuilder. Weight bearing exercises like isometrics and resistance training will help improve your bone density, your posture and your fat burning potential.

If an exercise program is not part of your weight loss efforts, you are setting yourself up for failure. Make a commitment to incorporating exercise into your weight loss efforts and you'll see the results immediately.

By Bella Holly

Acne is a problem that seems to assault most people at one time or another, therefore it isn't a surprise that the beauty aisle at the store is full of hundreds of acne products to choose from. Most brands are trying to convince you that their products, or the use of their "product line," are the best acne cures.

The big issue with all of those products in their trendy packaging, accompanied by a high price, is that in order for them to actually be a permanent cure you would have to use them for the rest of your life.

Dry Sensitive Skin

By Mona Jones

Dry skin is quite often sensitive as well, which just makes it more difficult to deal with. Dry sensitive skin is taut because of the deficiency of natural oils and has a tendency to develop small expression lines that will eventually evolve into wrinkles. Moreover, this type of skin makes one more liable to allergic reactions, rashes, capillaries rupturing and sudden flushes. Therefore, taking care of dry sensitive skin is a real challenge sometimes. It is worth stating that it affects people of all ages, colours and genders.

You have to follow stringent steps in your choice of cleansing, moisturising and make-up products if you have dry sensitive skin to take care of. First of all, you have to reduce the amount of products you put on your face. The fact is, the more chemicals you come into contact with, the higher the chance of getting rashes. The products have to be fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic so that you don't get red, irritation blotches. Blusher and foundation could present some difficulties for dry sensitive skin.

Try not to use too much make-up in order to allow your skin to breathe properly. When you are shopping for make up, other than looking for the hypo-allergenic label, you should also try to ensure that they are oil-free. Foundation and blusher should be water-based because they don't clog your pores. Furthermore, oil-absorbing foundations are not recommended for dry sensitive skin, because they will make your epidermis even drier.

It is also not to be recommended that you use exfoliants or astringent products on dry sensitive skin because they could irritate the thin upper layers of skin. The same thing must be said in relation to washing - too frequent washing of the face means eliminating the natural oils that lubricate the skin, which will result in an increased dryness.

Furthermore, the day-time moisturiser ought to have an incorporated SPF (sun-protection factor) of at least 15. However, although you may like sunbathing, dry sensitive skin doesn't really permit you to enjoy such outdoor pleasures.

Don't expose dry sensitive skin to the sun just to tan it, because you will only achieve early ageing and possibly even fairly serious health problems. And last but not least, a warning must be given that you should change some of your cosmetic products for others along the lines mentioned above.

If you decide that you want to change to a different skincare brand, it is very important that you test the product on a small patch of skin in order to test whether it triggers any negative manifestations.

Some Things For Creating An Spa Place

By Amy Nutt

As many people who have had the experience will tell you, there are simply not many things that are more relaxing than a spa. In this stress-filled world, sometimes a person really needs to relax for them to be able to handle the day that's ahead of them. With things like work, school, and other activities, they can sometimes seem as if they are a little too much for us to handle. Unfortunately, especially with current economic climates, not everyone has the luxury of going to the spa for the weekend.

Luckily, there is the opportunity of creating the spa experience at the spa place. This is a cost-effective solution for those who want to reduce some stress and also feel the added comfort of kicking back at spa place! There are a few things that a person will need to create this experience, and they're pretty cheap, so one would not have to spend much to make their spa comparable to the expensive romps.

Equipment Firstly, you're going to obviously want to acquire the items that you need to create this magical experience. The typical spa revolves around the body, facials, and hair, so make sure that you keep these things in mind while you're running to the store. Although there are many items that the spa uses, here are a few basics:

- Anti-oxidant toners, cleansers, and moisturizers - Your favorite loofah - Bath Brush (preferably the ones with the long handles) - Bath Salts - Spring Water (preferably with lemon) - Essential Oils

Usage All of these things play a vital role in creating your spa experience at spa place, as these are the basic things (more or less) that they use in the traditional spa. The key to really making this magic is to use the body scrubs to remove all of the toxins from the body, while stimulating the skin. Use the essential oils in the spring water for the best effect, and make sure to gently, yet thoroughly, cleanse the body with the loofah. The bath salts can also be added to the solution for the cooling effect.

Facial Rejuvenation This is probably one of the biggest things in the spa, as everyone wants to leave the spa with that radiant glow, which are essentially the same reasons why celebrities stay a week at the professional spas. One of the noteworthy things to stay here is that everyone should remember that the skin on the face is some of the most delicate on the body. It is advisable that a person does not use any harsh soaps or cleansing agents here, and be sure to be gentle!

The Spa Treatment Using these ingredients to make a spa treatment at spa place is something that more and more people are finding to be a really good alternative than shelling out a lot of money. The person who tries this will be someone who feels relaxed and ready to take on the next day, almost with a new lease on life!

Stretch Mark Treatment. Best Stretch Mark Remedy.

By Linda Robsion

Anyone who has ever experienced stretch marks has no question as to why someone would seek a stretch mark remedy. The visual impact makes people uncomfortable and they hope to find the best stretch mark cream or stretch mark treatment available. Unfortunately the goal of obtaining a stretch mark remover can be daunting.

What are Stretch Marks and What Causes Them?

Stretch marks happen when skin tissue tears and the dermis breaks down. At first the skin looks sort of purplish, but overtime it turns silver and may get wider and longer. Unfortunately, cover up makeup does not help much. This is one of the most common skin changes during pregnancy.

The reason for stretch marks can vary. Women often get them due to hormonal changes (like pregnancy). Men and women can also get them from too much weight gain and excessive weight loss. Others still may find that gaining or loosing muscle causes stretch marks.

Effects?

Stretch marks are harmless except when it comes to self-esteem. This is especially true for someone who has worked hard to lose weight and get in shape only to discover a visual reminder left behind - stretch marks, and no stretch mark remedy in sight. How discouraging!

Are There Stretch Mark Remover Remedies?

There are hundreds of stretch mark remover creams and stretch mark remedies on the market. One popular product is the use of cocoa butter. Others include vitamin E or lemon juice. These options look good when compared to the $1000 bill for laser surgery stretch mark removal (that's per session!). However, the effectiveness of these remedies varies from person to person.

Other Stretch Mark Treatment Options:

The editors of Wrinkle Free Skin Tips have found a product, called a Derma roller, that's extremely effective for removing stretch marks. This little hand held device can be used by anyone, even if you're pregnant because its not a cream and is not toxic. In addition, its much more cost effective than laser surgery. The Derma Roller can also be used to remove lines, wrinkles, scars, and cellulite. It does by encouraging collagen production in the skin. And the derma roller is safe and FDA approved.

Alternative Treatments for Rosacea: Home Remedies For Rosacea

By Linda Robison

Alternative treatments for rosacea on the rise. Considering the fact that over 16 million people suffer from rosacea, rosacea awarenes is up and people demand natural, safer, and less invasive options than the typical expensive prescriptions, laser treatments, and over the counter products that don't work.

Some simple daily natural treatments for rosacea that all sufferers should practice are as follows:

- Wash with water that is lukewarm, not hot.

- Never use abrasive cleansers or wash cloths. Treat your skin gently

- Light blot dry your skin with a soft, thick cotton towels.

- If you use a special make up for rosacea, make sure to apply very light layers so as not to clog pores and trap bacteria.

- Flare-ups cause skin damage, so try to treat them as soon as possible.

- Always use a sunscreen and stay away from the sun. It's the number one cause for flare-ups.

- Monitor your diet daily. By avoiding alcohol, hot beverages and/or spicy foods you can greatly reduce the number and severity of Rosacea flare-ups.

Stages for Rosacea: Pre-Rosacea: The first sign of Rosacea is dilate blood vessels to the slightest stimuli. The blood vessels open wider and stay open for longer periods of time compared to normal persons. Mild Rosacea is when the facial redness induced by flushing persists for an abnormal length of time - usually 1/2 an hour or more after a trigger. Those who have frequent pre-Rosacea flushing are highly susceptible to progressing to mild Rosacea. Some of the common triggers for a facial flush are heat, cold, emotions, exercise, topical irritants and allergic reactions.

Moderate rosacea is where facial flushing becomes more frequent and intense, vascular damage occurs. This can result in long lasting redness, swelling and inflammatory papules and pustules. Telangiectasia (damaged micro blood vessels, often visible on the surface of the skin) may be noticed in the areas where flushing is worst. The last state, severe Rosacea is characterized by intense bouts of facial flushing, pain, severe inflammation, swelling and burning sensations. Sufferers may develop intolerance to products they were able to use before. Also inflammatory papules, pustules and nodules may be present. Some experience a bulbous enlargement of the nose, known as rhinophyma. This is just a guide, you may of course experience symptoms outside these ranges.

Natural Treatment for Rosacea: Alternative Treatment for Rosacea. This 3 step alternative treatment for rosacea includes:

- Using an anti-inflammatory topical product that reduces redness and flushing. This natural, gentle botanical ingredient can help constrict dilated blood vessels close to the skin surface which is what gives the skin that red blotchy look.

- Using an anti-bacterial agent to kill skin damaging bacteria and prevent breakouts.

- All natural collagen booster. In rosacea skin, collagen networks are weakened due to inflammation, bacteria, and age. By strengthening the collagen and skin you can help prevent flare-ups, help the skin heal faster, and help it to look better faster.

The most important factor to remember when looking for natural home remedies for rosacea is that it's an inflammatory condition. Therefore, you should never use harsh cleansers, creams, or products on your skin. And you don't want to dry the skin out. You need to allow the natural skin oils to protect the skin and boosts its defense against environmental bacteria and conditions. While you may not be able to control the temperature or your emotions, you can take charge by applying the proper skin healing products.

Panoxyl Bar 10 To Clear Up Acne: A Review

By Lori Voth

Is your face often oily? Do you have frequent breakouts? Do you need to clear up your acne? You might benefit from Panoxyl Bar 10.

Panoxyl Bar 10 is a soap-like bar (yet free of soap) that contains 10% benzoyl peroxide, which if you don't know, is quite a bit. Panoxyl Bar 10 is a non-prescription item, available to anyone who wants to dish out the $9 or $10 bucks for it, but it is sometimes kept behind the pharmacy counter, perhaps due to the benzoyl peroxide concentration.

You would only need to ask the pharmacy for it if you cannot find it in the aisle with all of the other facial soaps. The Panoxyl Bar 10 comes in a white rectangular (soap size, naturally) white box with Panoxyl 10%, Maximum Strength Acne Wash written in large blue letters.

And it works pretty well. I wouldn't call it a breakthrough product because it seems to lose its effectiveness after consistent use, but it certainly works better for clearing up acne than any of the other over the counter products I have tried.

And there's something about the large concentration of benzoyl peroxide that makes it more pleasant to use than other benzoyl peroxide products I've tried. Usually the stuff with benzoyl peroxide is found in creams and I've found these to not only smell terrible (thus, making you smell terrible) but it also itches, reddens the skin and after that doesn't even work. But the Panoxyl Bar 10, if you coat your face with the thick white soap-like stuff and let it sit for a couple minutes, it dries out your skin really fast.

This is of course is not the conventional product usage, so if you follow suit, please do so with great caution and possibly doctors advice, but I have found it to work best and quickest if I allow the Panoxyl Bar 10 to moisten a bit and taking a big chunk of the gooey clump soap-like stuff in my fingers, coat my dry face with it and leave it on for 5-10 minutes like a face mask before washing it off.

The product does have a tendency to cause redness if your skin hasn't habituated to it so I only recommend that method for use after you're a Panoxyl Bar 10 expert or if your breakout is so bad, you are desperate and your face is red anyway.

But the Panoxyl Bar 10 product works. If you need to clear up acne or dry out an oily face, I definitely recommend you giving Panoxyl Bar 10 a shot.

The Causes Of Acne Imbalance Of Skin Physiology

By Blake Seifert

Acne is an imbalance of several factors in skin physiology, which are related in the sebaceous gland of the skin. When your body is in perfect harmony small amounts of oil develop and are released on the skin. However, when too much oil is produced in these glands problems occur.

Since the sebaceous gland is deep down in our skin the oil has nowhere to go, which means it just builds up and gets infected with bacteria. This will eventually lead to acne.

One of the bigger factors in acne is skin bacteria. Bacteria always floats around and on top of the human skin never doing any damage. However, if just a little bit of the bacteria gets trapped beneath the skin, the bacteria will begin to react immediately with the oil causing a severe outbreak. A lesser known factor involves the presence of fatty acids. These kinds of acids can be very irritating to the skin and may also affect acne outbreaks.

When acne begins to breakout there are many warning signs. Redness, swelling, and inflammation of the skin will occur. When an actual zit begins to form, the body will try to attack and kill the bacteria inside the zit. This is what causes the formation of a white substance around the top of the pimple. Also, as the pimple grows out from the bacteria inside, it also grows deeper into the skin and even sideways causing swelling around the infected area.

What causes acne? Nobody really has an exact answer for that question, but there are many theories out there. Some people have increased oil production in their cells which eventually leads to acne problems in the future. Others have serious skin bacteria problems that cause the disease. However, the leading cause of acne is genetics.

If acne is in your chromosomes, then there will be a good chance of that chromosome being passed onto you. Surprisingly enough, most people think environmental factors are what produce acne. Well that's just not true. Chocolate has never been found to have any influence on the development of acne in humans and neither has fried food. If its in your genes your probably going to get the skin disease.

Hormones also play a huge part in acne development. Men are more likely to have bigger outbreaks of acne because of the high amounts of excess oil they produce. The teenage years can also be one of the worst times for acne outbreaks. Many young teens are going through puberty and their bodies are producing an excess of everything including skin oil.

In most cases acne will go away on its own, especially if you get the acne when you are a teenager. Most kids go through puberty with acne problems, but once they hit their early 20s the disease subsides and their face clears up. This is not always the case, but it should be noted.

Acne can be treated with modern medicine and acne products these days. However, if none of those tactics work, please see a dermatologist.

An Age-Old Acne Alternative Treatment Exposed?

By Jason Cartwright

If you are searching for a natural but effective and safe acne alternative treatment, we suggest you consider what the Chinese have to offer. We all know that when it comes to remedies for just about anything, the Chinese have cornered the market.

Chinese medications have been used for thousands of years and at present, are an admired selection for all sorts of sicknesses together with acne. Against westernized medicine, the Chinese think that a human being's blood has temperature and toxins that take part in the growth of acne.

For instance, have you ever noticed how acne seems to develop in the T zone on the face? The Chinese say this is because this zone is the same zone connecting to the small and large intestine, as well as the stomach. Therefore, acne shows up due to digestive problems, or exposure to chemicals.

So what does a Chinese acne cure home remedy entail? Generally it requires you to eat more healthily, get enough vitamins and nutrients, be very hygienic, and then stick to a long-term, sustainable eating plan. When it comes to eating fats, you should stay away animal fats and margarine that leek toxins in your body and cause inflammation, and use extra virgin olive oil instead.

With a Chinese acne alternative treatment, it is also thought that eating non or low-fat dairy goods is a great deal better on the digestive system. You should keep away from anything, which is processed, which includes several of our much loved foods such as crackers, cookies, potato chips, and so forth. You ought to also enhance your diet with foodstuffs like flax seed and salmon, both rich in omega-3 fats.

Nevertheless, what you desire is to keep away from omega-6 fats. These would comprise materials such as soybean, corn, sunflower, and cottonseed oils, all oils that promote swelling. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is also encouraged by the Chinese as an efficient acne cure treatment.

The reason is that these foods are high in vitamins that have been proved to eliminate acne. Fiber, which is beneficial to a person's digestive system is also encouraged, along with foods high in beta-carotene and vitamin A. The Chinese at home acne treatment also supports the consumption of protein and lower carbohydrates, again going back to a better digestive system.

The Chinese also realized that by eating foods such garlic, spices and coffee, they can heat your body, leading to an acne breakout. They prefer it that you cool your body, not only through proper diet, but also by drinking a lot of water - up to 4 quarts is recommended. Water is great for purifying your body, making it an ideal acne alternative treatment that anyone can try.

All Natural: The Best Acne Treatment

By Andrew Logan

Most people have suffered from acne at some point in their life, usually during adolescence. This can be both embarrassing and it can be a hassle. If you are like most people you have undoubtedly tried many over the counter treatments, with little effect.

Of the thousands of over the counter and prescription medicines that are currently available for the treatment of acne, most contain very harmful chemicals. For those who are health conscious, a natural acne treatment may be more suitable.

There are not as many natural treatments available to consumers as there are 'traditional' treatments, but there are thousands. My favorite natural treatments are tea tree oil, sulfur, herbs, and aloe Vera. In the rest of this article, you will learn more about each.

The first, and my favorite, is without doubt tea tree oil. This 'herb' has a long history as a treatment for infection, going all the way back to Aboriginal Australians who used it well over one hundred years ago. The reason it works is because the oil naturally contains antimicrobial agents that fight infection.

I also like herbs for the same reason that I like tea tree oil, because they have a very long track record. Some of the herbs that I have successfully used to treat acne are yellow dock, sandalwood, and sarsaparilla. In the next few paragraphs I will go into detail for each.

Sandalwood and sarsaparilla are both great treatments for acne. I have used both, and I have had wonderful results; here is how I used them. I chopped them with a kitchen knife and mixed them together to form a paste. Next, I applied it topically to the affected area, which reduced swelling.

Aloe and sulfur are also very good treatment options for the fight against acne. You can use aloe Vera topically to reduce swelling and relieve the pain associated with pimples. Sulfur can actually kill the bacterium that causes acne if applied directly to the skin, because like tea tree oil, it has natural antibacterial agents.

All of these herbs and natural treatments are great for the treatment of acne, but you should keep in mind that you may be allergic to some or all of them. For this reason, you should check with your doctor before beginning treatment.

Murad Skin Care: A Review Of The Murad Acne Complex Products

By Lori Voth

I would write this same exact review for all of the Murad products in the Murad Acne Complex Kit because it is so important for people to understand that these products must be used together. I don't know what it is but if you use all four Murad Acne Complex products- the cleanser, the clarifying astringent, the acne spot treatment, and the moisturizer, your face will very likely clear up. Or at least mine did. These are all part of the Murad Acne Complex Kit which is listed on the website under the Murad Skin Care "As Seen On TV" products.

The Murad Acne Complex group of products are a the main focal point of the well known late night infomercial for Murad skin care. The infomercial, I must admit is what originally piqued my interest in the Murad Skin Care products. It wasn't just that the before and after photos showed major improvements in people's skin with severe acne, but it was actually the more in depth commentary about and by the inventor of the product, Dr. Murad. I remember the major points I remembered about the Murad Acne Complex products that really struck me were that Dr. Murad apparently designed the formula based on the fact that there are so many types of skin disorders that resemble simple acne or blemishes and often times it takes many trips to the dermatologist, many months of trial and error with various skin care products, wasted money, and prolonged distress in the patients who are suffering from this unsightly skin disorder.

Therefore, according to the infomercial, Dr Murad made a little concoction that treated a very big variety of skin disorders related and similar to acne so that the guessing game could be arrested and the skin would show results more quickly. In other words, the Murad Acne Complex products are made to treat most of the common acne-like problems, all in one shot. Unless you have something really obscure going on with your skin, the chances of Murad skin care working are high.

And the Murad Acne Complex products worked extremely well for me, as long as I used them as directed, and as directed means, using all four products in a specific order. This utilization of each Murad skin care acne product is a crucial factor in the speeding up of the healing of your skin. I will stress again that you have to use all four products and you have to use them every night every time. it is kind of a lengthy process and even though after awhile I thankfully came to a point where my skin was clear enough to discontinue the constant use of Murad Acne Complex but I swear by Murad now.

If ever my skin should get as broken out and disgusting (not to mention embarrassing) as it was a few years ago, I would without a doubt invest in the Murad Skin Care products once again. It took me forever to get to this point where only once in a while I have a blemish on my face and where my face overall looks healthy and smooth. People compliment me all the time on my skin (Don't get me wrong, my skin is still in need of work, but people who saw how bad it once was take the time to notice how much better it has gotten). I used to have breakouts all the time and I'm 26. I would hate to leave the house because of them I was depressed and I felt ugly.

I tried everything- antibiotics, Retin-A, all the over the counter stuff, many things recommended by facial people, everything. And then when I saw that Murad targets several different skin problems that disguise themselves as acne I decided to try it. I promised myself Id give it a try for at least a month and if it didn't work I wouldn't buy it again. Within two weeks my skin started making huge improvements. This stuff really works. But again, you have to do every step (which is a pain, but the results are worth it). The moisturizer, it seems to me is the most important.

There have been several times where I felt I didn't need it or I decided to skip a step just because I was tired and the next day I woke up with a pimple. But as long as I keep using it every morning and night, my skin is overall great.

I definitely recommend this product if you can dedicate the time and effort to use it correctly. It obviously isn't going to work for everybody but according to the press release about Dr. Murad and the Murad Acne Complex Kit (see resources), studies found huge improvements in 90% of the patients who tried the product religiously. That is really quite a lot. So give it a try. I'm almost certain that if you are not satisfied, Dr. Murad would be more than willing to offer you a refund.

Acne is awful. Why let it go on any longer? You can follow the links in the resources section to learn more about the Murad Skin Care products, about Dr. Murad and the Murad Acne Complex Kit, what it does and how to go about buying it.

Best Acne Treatment: At Home Treatment

By Andrew Logan

Almost everyone will suffer with acne at one point in their life or another. Because of this, people tend to experiment with household products such as vegetables, fruit, and grapes. The reason that people can to prefer homemade acne treatments instead of more traditional store-bought treatments is because they are all natural.

Since you're reading this article about homemade acne products I'm sure that it rather get to the meat of the subject and that brings us to our first homemade acne product; lemon juice.

Lemon juice can be a very effective cleaning product cause of the top of the local make of that it has. It helps to reduce the amount of oil that is in your skin, and it can even help to kill bacteria. To use lemon juice as a topical treatment for acne will need to first combine it with water to dilute.

Another one of my favorite acne treatments is a vegetable called zucchini. I like zucchini because it helps to remove the excess oil your skin. This will need these lemon juice in killing of the bacteria which will further you along the process of conquering your acne.

Another of my favorite home acne treatments is zucchini. This works by actually drawing the bulk of your natural bowl your skin. By reducing the amount of all that is naturally your skin you can reduce acne because this removes the habitat in which he lives.

To use a zucchini, you will need to slice it as though you were going to eat. Next, you will need to place the zucchini directly on the affected area of skin.

The Jessica Simpson Acne Lie

By Johnny Moon

Jessica Simpson is paid millions of dollars for her endorsement of ProActiv products. Before she signed her endorsement deal with ProActiv she stated publicly that she cured her acne through prescription Accutane an extremely powerful internal medication that stops the production of excess oil which causes acne.

This is a very important point. Accutane works internally. Topical products are not effective in fighting acne because you have to stop acne at it's source. Having acne does not mean your skin is dirty. One person can clean their face 100 times a day and still have a horrible case of acne and another person can take just one shower a month and have no acne.

Unfortunately millions of people continue to waste a lot of money on ineffective "acne treatments" that do nothing but irritate the skin. Topical treatments do not work. I think most people that have suffered from acne for years already know this at some level but don't want to admit it because they think it's their only chance. That's what the topical acne treatment industry counts on. Desperation. I know that I suffered from acne for years and continued to buy the creams and the pads and all of the rest of that garbage even though I never saw any real results from it. If anything they seemed to make things worse by irritating my skin.

The fact is there are alternatives to useless topical "acne medications" and I don't mean just prescription Accutane.

Accutane while extremely effective does require a prescription and it has many side effects. It is also is usually only prescribed in very bad cases of acne so if you have a light case (one or two pimples/zits at a time) you will probably not be able to get accutane. Because of these reasons I do not recommend acne unless you have an extremely bad case.

For most acne sufferers there's a better and much cheaper choice that does not require a prescription: B5 Vitamins. I am so big on B5 Vitamins because they worked for me. I suffered from acne from age 18 to age 25. I tried every topical medication in the world. They did nothing. I always seemed to have at least one pimple. I did not have a really bad case, I don't recall ever having more than 3 or 4 pimples at one time so I would not qualify for Accutane. But as I'm sure any acne sufferer already knows, it only takes one to make you feel bad about yourself.

It was when I turned 25 that I was getting really desperate and I thought I have to try something different besides creams and pads because they just weren't working (took me 7 years to finally give up on them!) and that's when I discovered B5 Vitamins for acne treatment. At first I was very skeptical because I had not heard about it before (I know now why that it is.) but I decided to give it a try because it was pretty cheap.

It worked. Within weeks my acne had disappeared and now 4 years later it's never returned. Not only that but Vitamin B5 has many great positive side effects including more energy and improved clarity of mind.

So why hadn't I heard of Vitamin B5 for fighting acne before (and maybe why you haven't heard of it before now?) well the answer is simple. It's cheap. It's just a vitamin. What money can be made on a vitamin? Not that much.

The companies that make acne fighting Vitamin B5 capsules (such as Vilantae) can't afford to pay a celebrity like Jessica Simpson to talk about their products. Without advertising it's hard for the average person to hear about your product.

But the word about Vitamin B5 supplements is starting to get around and I definitly want to do my part in that.

I think it's a shame that people continue to waste their money on topical treatments that do not work when there's a real alternative that really does work in Vitamin B5.

Big acne companies like ProActiv does not want the word to get out about Vitamin B5. Understandably so. I've even noticed some strange misinformation on the internet about Vitamin B5 and it would not surprise me one bit if the big acne companies were behind that.

Vitamin B5 is safe. Vitamin B5 works. If you've never tried it before and you suffer from acne you really need to try it. Jessica Simpson isn't telling you but I am, and unlike Jessica Simpson I actually used this product to cure my acne.

How To Be Acne Free For Good

By Mikki Dutta

From a recent studies it came out that an estimated one in ten adults and up to 70% of women suffer from acne at some time in their lives.

There are various causes of adult acne.

Hormones are one of the major reasons. As a result women tend to be more prone to acne than men. During ovulation, menstruation and childbirth, the ratio of male-to female hormones change, stimulating the oil-producing glands that cause breakouts.

Stress and anxiety is another major cause which also contribute to acne eruptions. These emotional strains on the body can contribute to hormonal changes that can cause acne.

Some medicines that contain bromides and iodides, barbiturates and lithium can cause acne flare-ups.

People who has excessive contact with telephones, hats and sweatbands can get acne.

Since we now know why acne is caused, lets see what can be done to prevent them. There are various acne skin treatment available, plus various acne advice as well, however following are some of the proven ways to prevent acne, doesn't matter if its cystic acne or acne in oily skin.

Always keep your hands away from your face. Your hands contain oils and dirt that can contaminate your pores, thus causing acne.

We have heard about this before, but we always forget this, which is don't squeeze your spots! Tempting as this may be, it only makes matters worse. Most spots heal on their own. Picking at spots is a bad idea. It increases the chance of permanent scarring, spreads the bacteria and increases the chance for infection.

Since stress is one of the major cause of acne hence try to reduce stress wherever possible. Try to get more sleep, exercise, warm baths and general relaxation. Contrary to popular belief, diet has very little effect on acne eruptions, but a balanced diet contributes to physical well being.

Acne skin treatment using chemicals can include gentle cleansing with a soap formulated to fight acne, or an antibacterial lotion that contains benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid.

Avoid over cleaning; twice a day is plenty. Some vitamin supplements that contain Vitamin A (to normalize and reduce oil), zinc (to reduce inflammation, redness and swelling), and beta carotene (increases resistance to infection) help to keep acne from recurring.

Find Out How Long Do Hemorrhoids Last

By Anne Torres

First off, Lets discuss some important things you should know about hemorrhoids!

It is important to know that while hemorrhoids can be very unpleasant to deal with to say the least, often times hemorrhoids will go away on their own! Normally hemorrhoids will last 7-14 days. While many cases of hemorrhoids will disappear on their own there are extreme cases that will require medical treatment.

The severity of your hemorrhoids should really be examined when trying to answer the question "How Long Do Hemorrhoids Last" I would like to discuss with you some great facts that you should know before trying to answer the question of how long they will last.

* Please understand that if you are suffering from hemorrhoids you are not alone! This is a very common condition and in fact a staggering 1 out of 25 people suffer from hemorrhoids. The most common age range for hemorrhoid suffers is 45-65 years old, but those younger are definitely not immune! If you have recently developed hemorrhoids they are not going to go away overnight! Most hemorrhoids can last upwards of 7-14 days. If your hemorrhoids last longer than this you should consult your medical doctor . * What Causes Hemorrhoids? While the exact cause of hemorrhoids can not be determined it is often thought that they are attributed to inadequate intake of fiber, prolonged sitting on the toilet, and chronic straining to have a bowel movement (constipation)!

If you are asking yourself how long do hemorrhoids last, also ask yourself if you are getting enough fiber. I have also heard people say that sitting on cold surfaces can cause a mild case of hemorrhoids.

* What precisely Are Hemorrhoids? Although a precise definition of hemorrhoids does not exist, they can often be described as masses or clumps ("cushions") of tissue within the anal canal that contain blood vessels and the surrounding area, supporting tissue made up of muscle and elastic fibers.

Revealing The Chinese Acne Alternative Treatment

By Jason Cartwright

Did you know there is a Chinese acne alternative treatment, that is not only natural and harmless, but it works too? As you may well be aware of, the Chinese have an number of remedies for just about any health condition, including acne.

Their cures go back millenia, and they still are a common choice for acne sufferers. As opposed to American and European beliefs, the Chinese think that acne is caused by toxins and heat in your blood and digestive organs.

With a Chinese acne alternative treatment it is also believed that eating non- or low-fat dairy products is much better on the digestive system. Things you should avoid include anything packaged, which covers many of our favorite foods such as crackers, cookies, potato chips, and so on. You should also supplement your diet with foods like flax seed and salmon, both rich in omega-3 fats.

However, what you want to stay clear of is omega-6 fats. These would cover things like soybean, corn, sunflower, and cottonseed oils, all oils that encourage inflammation. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is also promoted by the Chinese as an effective acne cure treatment.

These foods are a good source of nutrients that aid in the cleansing of your body and skin. Also the fiber, beta-carotene and vitamin A in some of these foods help to cleanse your stomach and intestines. And to further aid the proper functioning of your digestive system, the Chinese at home acne treatment prefers you to eat more protein and fewer carbohydrates.

How To Prevent Acne

By Eric Abrego

Acne is a huge embarrassment for most individuals, no matter what age they are. Over 85% of humans have experienced acne in their life. Like most other health conditions, people wait until acne gets out of hand before they ever address the problem. While it is good to treat acne early, it still won't stop it from happening nor will it stop you from getting those acne scars on your face. The best way to stop acne is by treating it before it ever starts.

There is still no way to stop acne completely as of yet, but there are ways to stop it before it starts. One of the ways to stop acne before it starts is by adopting a daily cleansing routine. While acne is not caused by poor hygiene, it is still very important to use a wash cloth or any other material, that will help exfoliate the skin.

The reason for this is because too many skin cells can be a contributing factor to acne. Do your cleansing routine twice a day and stay away from moisturizers with oil in them.

When you're finished washing your face, use a 2% salicylic acid solution like stridex. What salicylic acid does is remove those excess skin cells that clog the pores and cause acne. If this regimen is followed daily, it will certainly reduce the number of acne breakouts that you will get.

If there is a case, in which the salicylic acid doesn't work then use a 5% benzoyl peroxide. Don't use any benzoyl peroxide that is over 5% because it will cause severely dry skin. The 5% benzoyl peroxide is a strong enough solution to stop acne without causing excessive dry skin or irritating the skin.

If you don't want to use benzoyl peroxide, an alternative is tea tree oil which has been proven to be just as effective as benzoyl peroxide.

The final step to this regimen is to use oil free sunscreen to protect your skin before going outside. Of all the steps mentioned, this is the most important one. Sunlight can not only damage and irritate the skin but it has also been a leading cause for skin cancer. When skin is damaged, the chances of developing acne increases.

For this regimen to work, you must do it daily, regardless of whether you have acne or not. When you exfoliate the skin by using salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and sun screen, you're chances of developing acne are extremely low.

There are numerous alternatives to treating acne, but the effectiveness of them greatly differ. Prescribed acne medications like, Retin-A and Accutane can help slow down the acne process. Retin-A can be used without causing side effects and it also helps to reduce wrinkles and lines in the face.

The negative side of prescribed acne medications is that it can make the skin more sensitive to sun exposure, so when using these medications you have to wear sunscreen.

Acne can not be cured but it can be greatly reduced for those who already have it and it can be prevented for those who have not experienced acne. Remember the key to stopping it is getting to it before it starts.

Is Blue Light Acne Treatment Successful At Getting Rid Of Acne?

By Jason Cartwright

Since acne vulgaris is the most current skin condition, have you ever considered blue light acne treatment? While not life-threatening, acne can be harmful to teenage and adult skin and can hurt the sense of self of the acne patient.

Due to the extraordinary incidence of acne, there are more acne cure treatment choices than ever offered. The practice of dermatology has developed into being exceedingly specialized and there are countless cosmetic dermatologists operating now to not only help cure acne but moreover to cosmetically erase acne and acne scars.

It is known as photodynamic therapy or blue light acne treatment. An acne patient lies or sits down in front of a special light for roughly 15 to 30 minutes, every week for three to eight weeks straight, until the acne is removed. It works by focusing a blue light-wave which zaps bacteria known to cause acne.

A topical cream called Levulan could furthermore be utilized together with acne light treatment. Levulan will cause the skin to become pink and crust although it is also believed to facilitate in the complete reduction of acne and acne scars. Blue light therapy has been about since the 1970s, though as an acne cure it is a recent addition to cosmetic dermatology practice.

Advantages of Blue Light Acne Treatment

Blue light acne treatment may still be very new to the market, with the long-run side-effects still unknown, but it does have some positive aspects:

Number one - this type of acne treatment clinic is ideal for patients that have severe side-effects from other treatments. For example - antibiotics to cure acne are usually taken for a long period of time, which has the effect of your body resisting any other antibiotics and putting you at risk of infection. Accutane - a popular acne treatment - is known to make some patients depressed and suicidal, and cause birth defects.

Number two - If you always forget to take your antibiotics or apply that acne cream, then blue light acne treatment is a great alternative.

A third advantage of this acne cure treatment is that it is useful for patients who have received off-putting results from other sorts of therapy. Patients who have become resistant to antibiotics or topical balms now have one more alternative in cleansing their acne.

Fourthly, light acne treatment can now be used at home. These inexpensive kits can help treat your acne from the comfort of your home. However, these kits are not as potent as professional blue light treatment, so their effectiveness is still unknown.

Blue light acne treatment is only one of the many acne cures available. Before you waste money and risk your health trying antibiotics or various treatments, it is always best to try a natural cure for acne first.

Acne Herbal Treatment Alternative

By Shawna Smith

Many people are turning to herbal acne treatments as an alternative to over the counter acne medication. Over 40 million people in the USA and more than 17 million people in the UK are affected by some form of acne, making acne the most widespread skin disease in the world. A high proportion of these sufferers treat their condition with chemical treatments such as prescription medication, antibiotics and various brand name acne treatments.

The huge range of acne products and acne treatments available can be very confusing, ranging from a natural acne remedy and herbal acne treatments, right through to laser acne treatment and acne scar treatment. Not to mention the many books and websites out there that offer the newest way for acne prevention.

It is not widely known exactly what causes acne. It is a condition that comes about when skin pores become blocked due to a hormonal imbalance in the skin oil glands, or sebaceous glands. The clogging of the pores results in the emergencies of lesions on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders, which are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits.

There are a growing number of people who are turning to herbal acne treatments over the usual chemical-based medications. In general herbal acne treatment has fewer side effects as some of the chemical alternatives, which can cause burning, inflammation and peeling of the skin.

There are several drawbacks with the use of herbal acne treatments, not least the fact that natural remedies and their effectiveness is not regulated by government agencies. This lack of regulation means there is a huge amount of natural herbal acne remedies on the market, very few of which have been clinically proven to work.

One acne remedy which has been studied and has evidence to show that it works is Tea Tree Oil, which is a natural oil extracted from a native Australian tree. Tea tree oil is now recognized as a legitimate herbal acne treatment and is most effective when a few drops of the oil is applied directly to the skin there is no need to buy an expensive acne cream with tea tree oil in it. Another herbal acne treatment that has been recently shown to be effective is Green Tea Cream. Green tea has similar anti-bacterial properties to tea tree oil.

It is clear that there are only two natural herbal acne treatments that have evidence to show their effectiveness, tea tree oil and green tea cream. Other herbal acne products may help in moisturizing and reducing oils in the skin.

Acne can be extremely traumatic and upsetting due to the profound physical effects can have in some people. It can be a persistent condition but with the correct advice, perseverance and patience it can be overcome. Acne is an extremely common condition with many best herbal acne treatments easily available.

Natural Acne Remedies

By Dave Ickes

Did you know that acne is a skin condition that occurs with the overproduction of oil by the oil glands of the skin? Fortunately, acne is not a serious health threat but, it can cause scars. The bad news acne is not an adolescent disease. Be very careful here and don't think that because acne is common, you don't need treatment. Acne is worldwide the most common skin disease.

Unfortunately, women often have a flare-up of acne after giving birth. Because it is the most common skin disease worldwide, it is the most common skin disorder seen by doctors. Believe it or not, the actual cause of acne is unknown. Acne is a disease that affects more than 17 million individuals in the United States. Though acne is supposed to vanish after the teens, it can persist for many years.

The bad news is, no treatment will completely 'cure' your acne. Remember that regardless of whatever you treatment you choose, it can take 3-6 weeks to see any improvement after beginning treatment for acne. The best natural acne treatments are simple, affordable and effective.

Here are some natural remedies:

The vitamin way...Niacin - 100 mg niacin, three times daily and vitamin A - 50,000 international units of vitamin A, three times daily have been used successfully to treat acne. Vitamin E- 400 mg daily and Zinc - 50 mg three times daily have also show improvement for people with acne. This therapy should be continued for a month.

The food way--Pound an orange peel and mix with water and apply to affected area.Lemon juice applied to the area has also proved very beneficial in reducing pimples and acne. Raw garlic rubbed on the acne several times a day has been known to have cured tough acne problems. Garlic has many wonderful health benefits when eaten. If you can stand it, eat several cloves of garlic daily for a month. It's a great blood purifier. Cucumber, if grated, and applied over the face is worth a try. It's a great general tonic for the skin. Haven't you seen those pictures of women with slices of cucumbers over their eyes?

Fenugreek, an herb or spice, can be made into a paste by grinding up the leaves with water and applying to the face before going to bed...don't forget to wash your face with warm water in the morning?

The diet way...Bad eating habits can cause all types of acne. And what are these bad eating habits? Eating at weird hours or irregular times; too much starch and sugar consumption; fried and fatty foods are also a no-no. Constipation, in addition to it being uncomfortable, is another cause of acne. If the bowels aren't moving properly, the junk is not eliminated as quickly as it should.

The bloodstream becomes overdosed with toxic matter. The skin does extra duty to eliminate excess waste which result in acne and other forms of skin diseases

Forget wrinkles - many adults battle acne. A growing number of adults are being diagnosed with adult acne. Scars caused by acne in adults are more severe than the scars of teens with acne. Almost all adults had acne at one point, but most of them have forgotten just how much it can affect the way you feel when you have acne. Adults aren't supposed to have acne: This is a common belief, but it's just not realistic.

Yes, acne is treatable and can be resolved. Acne is a skin disorder and can be treated naturally. This inflammatory skin disorder can be helped without using harsh medicines and toxic creams.

The best treatments for adult acne and teen acne are out there. The above techniques help in addition to all those we haven't heard about yet.

Controlling Teenage Acne

By Deborah Schwabe

When we are a small child, our skin renews itself very quickly. Small children rarely have break outs or acne. Coming into our teenage years, our skin turnover slows down a bit and hormones, and a lack of a skin care regime can lead to clogged pores and acne.

Acne can be incredible stressful to the teen who is all ready feeling awkward with all the changes that are taking place with their bodies. Hormones increase and acne can come along with it.

Teens rarely have a regular skin care routine. This is the perfect time to introduce them to good regime and help them beat acne before it begins. As a child, because our skin turned over at a faster rate, the dead skin cells were renewed almost weekly.

Teenager's skin turns over at the rate of every two to three weeks, while adult's skin turns over at a very slow rate of every 25 to 45 days. Because your teenager's skin is not turning over as quickly as when they were younger, there is the ability for the dead skin cells to clog their pores.

With hormone production increasing, and sebum or oils increasing it is extremely important that the pores remain free of dirt, debris and the excess sebum production. By washing your face regularly both in the morning and evening with a good cleanser, you are helping to clear away those very things that can clog pores.

When dirt and excess sebum become trapped under the dead skin cells, this forms acne. Acne is bacteria trapped beneath the skin. A blackhead and a whitehead are very similar. A whitehead or closed comedone is still under the skin, while a blackhead or open comedone is open to the air, and becomes dark because air has hit it, and it has oxidized.

Exfoliating the skin is another way to help your teenager keep their pores from clogging. When we exfoliate the skin, we're helping to remove the buildup of dead skin cells. This in turns keeps the pores from clogging. Use a mild exfoliant and never be aggressive.

By following these simple steps you can lessen the impact of acne on your teenager's life. Wash regularly both in the morning and evening, and exfoliate the skin once a week.

If your child has a lot of buildup and clogging, you may gently exfoliate the skin twice a week. It is important to use a gentle exfoliant as over exfoliating the skin can cause the skin to be sensitized.

So, What's the Best Acne Treatment: Common Sense

By Andrew Logan

The misconceptions surrounding acne abound; some people believe it is caused only by oily skin, while others believe that it is caused exclusively from dirt which clogs pores. The truth is that acne is not caused by just one thing, but rather a myriad of things such as hormonal imbalances, clogged pores, and over producing oil glands.

Most articles will focus on teaching you how to treat the symptoms of acne such as how best to hide it, or at best how to stop the pain. The reason none of these articles help you is because they are not treating the root cause of acne.

This article will not teach you how to hide your acne, it will however teach you how to stop it from occurring by treating the root cause; bacterial infection. So, I will start with the most commonly overlooked triggers of acne; soap.

The first step in the process of treating your acne is to throw out your 'regular' soap, well maybe not completely. What I mean by this is, your face is far too delicate for a harsh soap, and most body soaps are very harsh. You should use a good facial cleanser instead, which is specifically designed for acne.

Next is something that you should not be doing as well. You should not be using rubbing alcohol on your face. It will kill bacteria, but it will also dry your skin out way too much. This will trigger the same reaction from your skin as regular soap; an over production of oil.

Next, you need to keep your hands off your face, which means not rubbing, picking, popping, plucking or whatever else you may be doing to pimples. This just makes things worse by spreading the infection to nearby skin.

The matter of popping zits needs to be explained a bit further; because acne is a bacterial skin infection, when you pop a zit, it spreads the infection to anything the fluid from the zit comes into contact with. This means that the skin underneath your zit will erupt next, and so on.

This is just a simple set of very basic advice; really it is all you need to know though in order to have acne free skin. Some people are allergic to certain chemicals, so pay special attention to this when you are purchasing any facial cleanser.

Acne Scars? 5 Ways To Gorgeous, Healthy Skin!

By Barry Crewse

Acne. Just the very word brings anger and frustration to those who suffer from it. Although acne can cause a variety of problems in one's life, severe acne can be profound and leave scarring that is difficult to treat.

Acne scarring is most often caused by what is known as pustules that develop deep within the skin. These type of infections cause an abnormal amount of tissue damage. The type of scarring which can occur because of this damage varies greatly and usually results in four distinct kinds of scars.

Ice Pick Scars: Deep pitting scars which are not only the most classic type of acne scarring but also the most common type.

Box Car Scars: These are an angular type of scarring that most often occurs on the cheeks and temples. These can be shallow in depth or very deep and resembles chickenpox scars.

Hypertrophics Scars: These are thickened scars which are generally higher than the surrounding skin and are also called keloid scars.

Rolling Scars: Scars that may give the skin a wavy looking appearance.

There are also what is know as pigmentation scarring which occur as a result of nodular or cystic acne. These are not true scars as most of the time they do fade with time.

Before treating acne scars most physicians or dermatologist will first try and evaluate the severity of the scarring by means of a grading scale. There are 3 main types of grading scales used and all use a numerical scale from 0 - 10 or somewhere in between. 0 being the least severe and the higher number on the scale they are using as being the most severe. Once you have been properly evaluated and the scarring graded you can then begin to explore the options available to you for treatment.

Successful treatment of acne scarring can be rather complex and has been hampered over the decades due to limited research but new and exciting treatments are emerging. Most people do not experience the exact same type scarring. In fact, most are very different from each other so treatment must be designed on an individual basis. With that in mind lets explore the different type of treatments available and the costs associated with them.

1. Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are generally recommended for those with mild scarring and appears to be very beneficial in up to 80% of those choosing this type of treatment. Chemical peeling can improve and smooth the facial skin by removing the outer damaged layers of skin. Generally phenol, tricholoracetic acid and alphahydroxy acid are used in varying strengths to accomplish the depth of peel desired. The benefit of chemical peels no only reduce the appearance of scarring but actually even control acne itself in certain cases. Make sure you consult carefully with your doctor prior to treatment. The cost of chemical peels can range up to $500 or more depending on how many treatments are required.

This type of treatment involves using lasers to remove the top layer of your skin which then permits new skin to grow and replace it. laser resurfacing in a relatively new procedure but results appear to dramatic. It too is used for mild or shallow scarring. There are two types of lasers which can be used. Pulsed carbon dioxide is the strongest type available. It is used mainly when the entire facial area is to be treated so that pigmentation throughout the face will remain consistent. Erbium laser, also known as Er:YAG is used more for minor and localized areas. Researchers are finding that by combining the two greater effects are produced and the recovery period appears to be shorter. The cost of this treatment can range up to $2500 and it too depends on the actual amount of treatments needed.

3. Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion also known as dermaplaning can be performed on small localized areas of skin or the entire face. It is also used for mild scarring and can be implemented along with other treatments such as chemical peeling. Dermabrasion involves the scrapping away of the outer layer of skin. Diamond burrs are most often used and you may liken this type of treatment to actually a sanding technique. An instrument called a dermatome is also used. A dermatome is like a razor which utilizes oscillating blades that effectively skim off the surface of the skin. This procedure can be used more than once. Results from this type of treatment can also be dramatic. Please not that it will take some time for the full effects to be realized but most report the treatment to be very effective. The costs range around $750 to $1500 per treatment.

4. Punch Techniques

As the name implies this treatment involves the actual punching out and replacing of the scar tissue itself. This type of procedure in most effective with ice pick type of scarring. The punch is most usually replaced with a skin graft. There is also punch excision which is actually removing the scar tissue and then closing the incision and allowing the area to heal. Your physician may consider combining this procedure with other treatments such as laser, chemical peel or dermabrasion to enhance the results. Cost are based on actual punches which can be as high as $75 each.

5. Augmentation

This type procedure involves injecting collagen or fat under the scar itself thereby causing it to rise to the surface. This is effective for deeper scars. This is a very promising procedure and research is continuing to determine the best type of material to use. The results seem to be temporary at this time especially with collagen. More permanent solutions appear to be on the horizon. Pricing is in the $200 to $750 range and is based on cubic centimeters treated.

Acne Prevention Diets: Do They Really Help?

By Nathan James

Many diets have been designed to help people prevent future acne breakouts, wherever they may occur on the body. Acne can appear on the face, back, chest, and shoulders. To make an acne prevention diet truly successfully, it is important to remove certain aggravators from your diet. Nothing special has to be added to what you regularly eat, however.

Greases and Fats

For your acne prevention diet to help you clear your skin, you will need to greatly reduce your consumption of foods high in grease, fat, and oil. These products cause the body to create an overabundance of sebum and other oils. It is those oils that fill up pores and cause acne.

The pores on your face can easily become clogged due to the presence of high levels of sebum and facial oils. Once a pore has been clogged by this mixture, bacteria begin to grow and the pimple that forms becomes more difficult to get rid of effectively.

Carbohydrates and Sugars

Studies have shown that those carbohydrates that exhibit an elevated glycemic index increases the risk of an individual developing acne break outs. This is due mainly to the elevation of insulin and glucose which are factors to acne breakouts. The studies have shown a remarkable link of carbohydrates and sugars to the increase of acne breakouts due to the high glycemic index of these foods. On the other hand, an acne prevention diet consisting of carbohydrates which have a low glycemic index and more lean protein have turned out favorable responses.

Some adults can have bouts of acne even after their puberty. An adult acne diet is highly similar to that of an adolescent. There should be a reduction of fatty and greasy foods as well as sugars and carbohydrates with high glycemic index. Acne prevention diets should have considerations for these kinds of foods being omitted from them.

The severity and frequency of acne breakouts can both be significantly reduced by making use of an acne prevention diet. Despite the fact that some people do not believe that the things you eat can affect the condition of your skin, it really can. Remember the old adage, you are what you eat. Eating right and sticking to a good acne prevention diet can help you to keep your skin clear, healthy, and beautiful.

Top Ten Acne Myths

By Kathy Browning

Acne is the most common skin disease in the United States. It affects nearly 20 million teens and one in every twenty adults. There is a tremendous amount of misinformation that confuses people about the real causes of acne. In order to clear the confusion, let's take a look at some of the most common acne myths.

1) Acne is caused by what you eat. Although some individuals notice their skin breaks out after consuming greasy foods, soda, and chocolate, these outbreaks are generally related to food allergies, not acne. Extensive studies have been conducted on acne and none have found a connection between diet and acne. Acne is caused by an overproduction of sebum (oil) and obstruction of the pores. It is not caused by food.

2) Acne is caused by poor hygiene. Acne is not caused by poor hygiene; however, it is important to keep skin pores clear of dirt to prevent bacteria from infecting the skin. Oftentimes, people who believe this myth cleanse their skin vigorously and frequently, which can make acne worse. Experts recommend gently washing the face twice a day with special oil absorbing micro-fiber facial clothes or with mild soap.

3) Popping pimples is the best way to manage acne. STOP and step away from the mirror! Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, picking or popping your pimples can lead to a nasty infection, or possibly even permanent scarring. As difficult as it might be let them pop on their own and they'll heal much faster.

4) Only teenagers get acne. People of all ages can get acne. As early as birth, infants can have mild acne on their faces. Adolescent acne usually develops when puberty begins and adult acne develops between the ages of 20 and 50. Most people eventually outgrow acne; however, in women it may last until menopause.

5) Oily skin is the main cause of pimples. Acne is not caused by oily skin. For reasons no one completely understands, follicles (or pores) sometimes become blocked with sebum (oil). The cells that line the hair follicle fail to make their way to the skin's surface, where they can be washed away. Instead these cells build up, mix with sebum and bacteria, and form a plug. Acne originates from the faulty hair follicle cells that don't get washed away, not the oil.

6) Acne is contagious. No one knows how this myth got started, but rumor has it that fathers would tell this to their daughters to keep them away from boys with acne. Apparently these fathers thought acne was caused by poor hygiene. Acne is absolutely, positively not contagious. You can't get it from anyone and you can't give it to anyone.

7) Tanning clears up acne. Tanning may darken your skin and temporarily mask the redness of acne; but it does nothing more than that. While it's beneficial to obtain 20 minutes of sunlight each day in order to obtain your vitamin D; too much sun increases your risk of developing wrinkles and even skin cancer. And, if you're thinking about tanning beds, nix that idea. There is growing concern that tanning beds increase your risk of developing skin cancer.

8) Using more medicine will heal acne faster. Wrong! When it comes to acne medicine, adhere to the saying "less is more." Using too much medicine can lead to dry, irritated skin. It can also lead to physical problems. When you apply ointment to the skin, it is absorbed by your entire body. It's filtered through the liver and kidneys. Using too much medicine can overtax these organs and cause unpleasant and even dangerous side effects. Always follow directions when using acne treatments and never use more than the prescribed amount.

9) Cosmetics must be avoided if you have acne. This is partially true and partially false. Certain types of cosmetics have been linked to acne and include foundation, night creams, and moisturizers composed of vegetable oil and oleic acid. If you want to use cosmetics just be certain to select products that are labeled "noncomedogenic" or "nonacnegenic." Oftentimes, health food stores will carry all-natural cosmetics; some of which are specifically formulated for people with acne.

10) It is safe to stop acne medication once acne has cleared. You should always consult with your doctor or dermatologist about discontinuing your medication. Acne flare-ups can occur if you stop taking your medication to soon, or if you change the dose. Certain medications require a "weening" period, which means the dosage should gradually be reduced. Complications can arise when quickly stopping some acne medications.
