Acne: How Do You Know Which Product Is The Best?

By Bella Holly

Acne is a problem that can affect anyone regardless of age, race, and size; however it is a particular problem among teenagers and young adults. Acne can also occur well past your twenties-which is known as adult acne.

That brings the following question to mind: What are the best acne treatments? Unfortunately this is not a simple answer, as people have different skin types and sensitivities which make it impossible to say that one particular product or treatment works for all. However, there are steps which you can take to find the acne treatment that works best for you.

The first thing you can do is to do a bit of research on products which you've seen either advertised or noticed at the store. You may find that good old-fashioned self-testing of products will be the best way to "research," however this can be costly and irritate sensitive skin.

A great form or research, especially if you're thinking of trying out a prescription acne medication, is to look up some reviews online. You can usually find reviews in which people have posted their skin type along with how effective the product was for them, as well as any side effects you should look out for. If you're a bit weary about using man-made products, don't fret! There are many different natural and homemade acne treatment recipes available online which you can research. Many people believe that the closer you stick to natural treatments, the more likely you are to see improvement in your skin, without the side effects which can occur with man-made products.

If you decide to go with man-made products, you might want to read the label to make sure it is okay for your skin type. Also, you want to steer clear of any products which contain a lot of alcohol, as alcohol is a drying agent which often drains your skin of the natural and necessary oils it produces to remain healthy and supple. If possible, swab a small patch of your skin (the inner arm near your elbow is a good place) with the product and wait a while to see if your skin has a reaction. So just keep in mind that the best acne treatment for someone else may not always be for you, and you must be willing to do a bit of research to find your perfect treatment type.
