Obtaining Acne Scar Treatment

By Darren Rowe

Unfortunately for many people, acne does not last only in adolescence, but it also takes place during the adult years. This can be frustrating and embarrassing, leading to scarring on the face as well as having to deal with the occasional breakouts in the skin.

The hard part about acne is that there does not seem to be any way to stop it completely; there are only ways to treat the breakouts and make them less harmful to the skin. Acne scar treatment is one method that people who do not have breakouts in their skin anymore can use to help solve the pitting in the skin that is not easy to cover up.

Although some scars are not very noticeable there are often deep pitting that can not be covered with makeup and show up as shadows on the skin. It is important to find the best acne scar treatment for severe scaring of the skin by acne.

What Are The Options?

With many different types of scarring you also find many different types of treatment. Individuals with deep ice pick scarring have the option of undergoing treatment when others fail. The reason this treatment is not recommended as a first option is because it is very painful and it takes time to recover.

Excision is a method where the pitted scarred skin is cut out en the skin is sewn together. There will be a small scar that remain but it will be much easier to cover up than the pitted scars.

Another method that is used today is called the punch elevation. This method is also very painful and requires healing time on the part of the patient. It is good for the deep, pitted scars as well, but the method this time is to release the base of the scar from where it is attached and raise it up to the surface level of the skin. Then it is held in place to heal by a strip or glue so that the surface of the skin is flat again.

This method can work if the pitted scars have normal edges to them, meaning that they are flat and can create the smooth surface of the skin that the patient desires. Besides these acne scar treatments that are for large scars, there are also acne scar treatments that are designed for mild scarring, such as laser resurfacing and chemical peels.
