Simple Cure for Back Acne

By Amanda Herring

Most of us struggle with acne on our facial area. Perhaps struggle is an understatement, as those who suffer from this disorder are constantly bombarded with nasty remarks and those disgusted glances. While facial acne is embarrassing and traumatizing on its own, some have a combination of this type of acne and back acne. These pimples surface on the shoulders and of course the back area. Because they are situated in such a location, they can often be painful. When we press our backs against chairs or lay down, we are placing pressure on these eruptions, triggering a painful reaction. While back acne is for the most part hidden, everyone who suffers from it wants to get rid of it. Fortunately, there are no special products or techniques required for treatment. You can eliminate your back pimples with the same creams and washes you use on your face. We will describe a recommended course of treatment below.

Throughout the day, our backs collect sweat and the bacteria that comes with it. Our clothes often absorb these contaminants and push them against our shoulders and back area. The resulting reaction is acne. Proper hygiene plays a large role in getting rid of back acne. You should try to shower at least once a day using a body wash specifically formulated to fight acne. Try to stop using your current body wash as it could be aggravating your skin. Even regular soap can trigger acne. Your wash should contain either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Soap bars are fine too. Do not apply the wash to your skin using the same applicators you use for normal soap. If need be, use your hands to spread the substance around. Be sure to adequately rinse it off.

Cleansing in itself is not enough for clear skin. You need to use a topical medication that includes benzoyl peroxide. It comes in multiple concentrations including 10%, however lower concentrations are just as effective as higher ones. To minimize discomfort in the form of irritation, use the 2.5% variant of the cream. Apply this to your back and shoulder area every night, and within a week you will see progress. Continue to fully clear your skin afterwards.

Your detergent may have a role in your back acne. Highly fragranced ones, for instance, have been known to cause breakouts. Consider switching to a more basic detergent that does not feature any overpowering scents. The same goes for your softener and anything else you may be using to clean your clothes.

Those that engage in athletic activity should also be on the look out. Changing clothes after workouts, for one, is an effective back acne deterrent. You don't want to let sweat sit on your skin for too long. Some of us also have a tendency to constantly touch our bare backs for one reason or another. This is not something you want to do, especially at a time when your hands are dirty. Show some self-control and you will be a step closer to clear skin.
