Can Aspirin Reduce Rosacea Inflammation?

By Linda Robison

Can a daily aspirin help with your rosacea symptoms? Well according to Bikowski, aspirin should be your first line of defense for reducing rosacea symptoms like flushing. Dr. Bikowski even suspects that there might be a connection between migraines and rosacea.

He bases his suggestion on a recent study published in the Dermatology Times that suggests potential benefits of taking a small baby aspirin (81 mg) to help reduce rosacea flushing and swelling.

Dr. Bikowski did his own informal study where he gave his rosacea patients a baby aspirin daily. He found that his patients reported fewer incidents of flushing and redness. He feels that if aspirin therapy is safe for the heart and colon, then why not the skin too. In addition, aspirin is pretty safe, inexpensive, and can be taken with most other drugs without any problems. Please Note: If you're not sure if aspirin is safe for you or you are taking any medications, please check with your doctor before trying aspirin therapy for rosacea.

Another doctor, Dr Linda Sy, suggests that in addition to taking a baby aspirin - consider taking a low dose antihistamine such as a 4 mg chlortimenton along with the aspirin at bedtime to help reduce nighttime flushing. Then in the morning take a B complex - that contains 50 mg of B-6 - and 1 Tagamen. Tagament helps to block H2 receptors.

Foods To Eat For Rosacea

In addition to aspirin and antihistamine therapy, consider reducing or avoiding the following foods because they are either high in histamines, niacin, or tend to trigger rosacea flare-ups. These foods include:

-Spinach
-Soy sauce
-Cheese
-Vinegar
-Eggplant
-Citrus fruits
-Broad leafed pods and beans

If you do consume these foods, try taking an antihistamine about two hours before to help counter the effects of the histamine. Or taking aspirin which can help reduce the effects of the niacin contained in these foods. Click here to read more on Diet For Rosacea.
