By Peter Skonctueht

Ah, acne. Those little red bumps can be very hard to get rid of, and a lot of people want to know just how to get rid of acne. You don't like to see it on your face, of course, because it can very much affect your appearance negatively.

There's also lots of stereotypical information out there about people who have acne that is in fact detrimental. Nonetheless, it's not as hard to get rid of acne as you might think. Let's take a look at how to get rid of acne for you, too, if you've got it.

First, prevention is key. If you've got acne, you want what you've got to go away and you want it to stay away once it's gone. Acne is caused by a number of factors including bacteria, and taking these steps will help prevent acne from coming back on your skin once it's gone.

Washing your face (or other acne prone areas) gently with soaps formulated specifically for acne is one of the best ways to prevent it from spreading. Wash once in the morning and once at night to get rid of oil and bacteria that can help acne thrive and spread.

If you're particularly active and you play sports, for example, you may sweat excessively. If that's true, you may have to shower more than once a day to get rid of the dirt and bacteria that can contribute to acne's presence on your skin. If you let the sweat dry on your skin, this can make your acne harder to get rid of. So, as soon as possible after you're done with your physical activity, shower thoroughly, again using antibacterial wash or another washing agent specifically geared to get rid of acne.

Of course, there will also be issues regarding how to get rid of acne lesions that have already developed on the skin. This is certainly not easy and it will take some time. That means you will need to properly invest a little patience into the whole process. If engaged in the right way, you can eliminate the presence of acne effectively and completely.

The use of an effective over the counter acne product can often lead to excellent results. The odds of a successful result will increase if you are consistent in the application of these OTC remedies. As such, applying such creams or liquids after washing is always recommended.

These over-the-counter products are particularly effective in curing acne because they dry the oil supply up that helps feed the acne blemishes; they also exfoliate skin, which can help unclog pores and get rid of hidden dirt. With this done, the pimple dries out and simply goes away.

Although pimples don't disappear overnight with just one application of these products, they are effective and pimples should disappear gradually. Again, patience is one major factor in your determination in how to get rid of acne.
